From Suspension to Global Dominance: Ironman 4x4’s Journey in Off-Road Excellence

VISIT SITE

Founded in 1958, Jacob Spring Works started out as a small Melbourne-based suspension parts manufacturer, growing locally and internationally across three decades. To cater to the growing popularity of 4x4 vehicles and the demand for rugged, reliable, and innovative 4x4 equipment, the business rebranded to Ironman 4x4 in 1988.

In that time the brand has made its mark across Australia’s harsh landscape and beyond, producing 4x4 parts for casual recreational adventurers and even military organisations. They now have a strong global presence across 6 continents, a true world leader in 4x4 equipment.

With legacy systems limiting their growth, Ironman 4x4 sought to undergo a digital transformation to enhance its B2B and B2C eCommerce platforms and streamline operations with its new Oracle NetSuite ERP system; further expanding its reach across the globe.

From Legacy Systems to Lost Opportunities: Ironman 4x4’s Digital Dilemma

Before migrating to Netsuite, Ironman 4x4 was utilising a 40 year old ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system which imposed unnecessary strain on logistical, financial and reporting operations; problems that had a direct and significant impact on revenue and growth.

The B2B experience was especially clunky and difficult to use. This poor user experience led distributors to call or email to place an order, creating an even greater load on customer service.

Beyond this, global branches used their own systems meanwhile their international distribution centre, was effectively doing most of their work by hand.

This lack of cohesion between the regions had a serious impact on day-to-day efficiency from a warehousing, finance, supply chain, reporting and marketing capacity.

Shopify Plus & NetSuite: A Custom Solution for Global Growth

The primary goals of the digital transformation included:

  • Seamlessly integrating with Oracle NetSuite, their ERP system, which required a customised solution for handling complex data flows.
  • Enhancing B2C and B2B eCommerce capabilities, further improving the frontend user experience.
  • Deploying eCommerce solutions in Australia, while also creating a system to serve all international customers.
  • Building a scalable digital infrastructure for future global expansion.

Soul+Wolf stepped in to completely revamp Ironman 4x4’s digital presence using Shopify Plus, focusing on a highly customised B2B platform as the core of the solution.

Integration with Oracle NetSuite

The centrepiece and perhaps the most complex aspect of the project was integrating Shopify Plus with Ironman 4x4's new ERP system, Netsuite. This highly customised solution ensured data from product inventories, orders, and customer information flowed seamlessly between the eCommerce platform and Oracle NetSuite, enabling smooth, automated business processes.

The successful completion of this integration ensures that the business has a completely accurate view of global inventory and sales activity in one centralised location. One clear, accessible source of truth for all teams in the business. To mention just a few, users can now pull real-time data on customers, vehicles, inventory, pricing rules and more.

Custom B2B eCommerce Platform

Utilising Shopify Plus’s robust B2B features, we implemented a seamless and customised B2B ordering process that dramatically improved user experience & order efficiency. This has enabled Ironman 4x4’s Distributors to place and QA bulk orders with ease, manage staff accounts (and their permissions), place warranty claims and track purchases.

Global Expansion with Multiple Stores

With an eye on future growth, the platform was designed to be scalable, ensuring Ironman 4x4 could easily deploy additional stores in new markets across Europe and Asia within just 4 weeks. To cater to the needs and requirements of diverse markets, we built a robust, flexible and highly-configurable system that allows different regions to use different components and features as needed. The solution allows for a globally consistent Ironman 4x4 brand experience while offering configuration to accommodate the varying and ever-changing needs of local markets.
